Artist Statement

Welcoming chaos as the agent of discovery allows my creative process to chart its own course. I have often thought of painting as an organic function of the mind. Ideas and fragments of ideas, and then that initial impulse, all seem to bloom in clusters. Some soon fade and pass, while still others thrive with urgency; the dynamics of their growth, familiar somehow.  Even within the abstract, there remains, shadows of natural order.

Through alternating layers of opacity and translucency, undulating structures slowly emerge from luminous nebulae. In a light which is emitted, rather than cast, revealing a form which describes, rather than defines.  Together, they address this odd encounter between the natural and perceived world by eliminating the distinction between light and space.  Organic and clear they rise to the surface, vaguely reminiscent of the natural world and yet, somehow other.

Finding that first mark of inception, that first impulse, is sometimes accidental, sometimes deliberate, but always a transformative moment for me as an artist, like a bell which echoes across each surface, luminous and crackling with the energy of that first surprise.
